A PDF Portfolio file is a group of PDFs in a single file. You can think of it as a container for the documents and files within it similar to a ZIP or PST file. PDF Portfolio files are a proprietary file type to Adobe and cannot be opened by other programs.
Due to this if you upload a PDF portfolio file to NextRequest you can release it to the requester, but because it cannot be opened by a non-Adobe program it will display like the image below in the document viewer and redaction tools.
Important Note
While you can upload and release a PDF portfolio file to a requester if you don't need to redact the contents, requesters often will not have the software necessary to open the PDF portfolio file. Due to this, a best practice is to extract the portfolio into component files even if they do not need to be redacted.
In order to work with a PDF portfolio file in NextRequest you will need to open it locally on your device to extract the component files. Review the Working with Component Files in a PDF Profile article on the Adobe Help Center for more information.
Once the files are extracted into their component files you can upload them to NextRequest and redact them as usual.
